The Music Specialists at Hart Magnet School want the students to learn the basics of music so they will have the desire to participate in a variety of music activities throughout their lives. By incorporating academic subject material as a supplement in music class, the students are learning that music does have an influence in, and is related to their everyday lives.
The following is a list of the content standards for music education as listed in the Stamford Music Curriculum. The Stamford Music Curriculum is based upon the National Standards for Music Education.
Standard #1: Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music
Standard #2: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music
Standard #3: Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments
Standard #4: Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines
Standard #5: Reading and notating music
Standard #6: Listening to, analyzing, and describing music
Standard #7: Evaluating music and musical performances
Standard #8: Understanding relationships between music, the other arts and disciplines outside the arts
Standard #9: Understanding music in relation to history and culture
