KPMG visits Hart Magnet Elementary School
Hart Magnet Elementary School is thrilled to have an outstanding community partnership with KPMG for over 12 years. This year they have provided our teachers and staff with mindfulness cards to help our K-5 students learn more about Social Emotional Learning (SEL) by encouraging ways to build empathy and manage everyday emotions.
At the beginning of the year, KPMG donated backpacks filled with essential school supplies for students in need. Yesterday, over 20 KPMG volunteers visited Hart to read to each Kindergarten and First Grade classroom. The enthusiastic read-alouds were followed up with a creative hands-on activity each of our students thoroughly enjoyed. They donated over 610 books to our K - 5 students this year alone. We thank KPMG for their generosity and are grateful for our continued partnership.

Hands-on Science Experiments
Hart Magnet School's second grade students participated in a program from High-Touch High-Tech called "Our Changing Earth." They learned about mountain formations and erosion through fun hands-on experiments. They deepened their learning about the rock cycle and had the opportunity to 'dig' for precious stones. This in-school field trip rocked!
Hart Magnet Elementary School - Author Visit from Kevin Kurtz
On March 18, Hart Magnet Elementary School had the privilege of having author Kevin Kurtz visit our K-5 students. He not only shared several books he had written with our students, but shared his wealth of knowledge as a researcher that led to his writing about an array of non-fiction topics that engaged our students throughout his presentation. Kevin Kurtz has written and published over 25 books to date. Mr. Kurtz is also a curriculum writer for the Science Factory Children’s Museum and the South Carolina Aquarium. Among many of his fascinating titles, he shared: A Day in the Salt Marsh, Living and Non-Living Things, Sharks and Dolphins, A Day in the Deep, Rising Temperatures, and Into the Crater with our students. Not only did our students learn a lot of interesting science facts, but our teachers did as well.
Hart Magnet Elementary School celebrates Read Across America week!
Hart students and staff enjoyed a week of themes to show off their creativity and love for reading led by Maria Guzda, Patricia DeBlanco, and Raji Sundararajan. From dressing up as your favorite character to wearing mismatched colorful socks and reading many classic texts, it was a fun time for all to celebrate how much we love reading at “Hart.”
Hart Magnet Elementary School Book Club
The new Hart Book Club began at Hart Magnet Elementary School this past October. Amelia Nandikesan, an eighth grader from Scofield Magnet Middle School, began the club as part of a Girl Scout Silver Award Project in order to benefit younger students at the school. The program has been open to all fourth grade students at Hart and the Ferguson Library has generously donated books to support the club. The program works to give students a chance to read a variety of books and discuss them with their peers, building critical thinking skills and creating new friendships.
